During 4 months, I had the opportunity to be an intern at Fleetway Travel Plc. The company, based in the heart of Central London, offers many travel products at competitive prices, including tailor-made breaks, flights, hotels, car hire, and travel insurance. I had never worked in the tourism sector so it was a real opportunity for me to have a feel for this area.
I have worked in the marketing department, so I could practice what I have learned last year and I have also studied and practiced web marketing. The internship was basically about writing attractive descriptions for the offers proposed by Fleetway along with studying the competition coming from other web -based travel agencies, developing the marketing blog of the firm, establishing a satisfaction questionnaire, writing newsletters and looking for new partnerships.
First, I will present the company. After that, I will describe and analyze the work objectives I had. Finally, I will describe about what this internship has given me in terms on learning in both personal and professional aspects of life.
[...] The team of this pole was really united: everyone worked together. You had to have a team spirit to work there. The office was an open space: as everyone collaborate, it was good to have this type of office. In fact, it was a chance to be able to talk to one's boss so easily; everyone was less embarrassed to ask him some information, or any question. Personally, I had my own desk with a personal computer, pens, papers, etc. [...]
[...] It really changed my life in London because there was nothing worse than loneliness. Plus, I did not want to tell my parents and my friends that I was so bad because they would be too worry for me and I wanted to defy this situation by myself. Money has also been a hard issue. Life in London is very expensive and I had to take over it: my parents could not afford another rent, and the cost of life. [...]
[...] Then, I turned this newsletter in a top 10. Afterwards, I did the page setup choosing attractive pictures and colours. Later, I finalized the newsletter with my boss. I finally gave it to a graphic designer so he could adorn it and forward it to a programmer to add some directs links to every offer. Finally, the programmer had to send the newsletter every Friday to the client base. I have done this job the second week of my internship. [...]
[...] You can report on annex 2 to see the flowchart of the company. Marketing policy We can study the marketing policy of Fleetway Travel in analysing the 4P: product, price, promotion, and place. First of all, regarding the product, they are axed on blog & buzz marketing; they want to put comments on their website and on other websites that talk about tourism and travel. The company also wants to have a quality image: they improve the customer services and implement some satisfactions inquiries in order to be ensured that the products they offer reflect Fleetway Travel's image. [...]
[...] I have argued this idea in explaining that there will be another objective: check the Fleetway Travel's partners services. It would help brand marketers to do their packages, if they describe that a hotel does not satisfy so much customers they won't work with them anymore. They told me that they have thought about a similar idea before but they did not have time to develop it. Then, they offered me the possibility to develop the concept myself. It was a great opportunity for me because it allowed me to be very autonomous and responsible. [...]
